The question is this, "What did you grow up believing was true, only to find out at some point that that truth-was a lie?"
I ask this because it strikes me that to know what to do and when to do it requires us to understand the truth. Not the truth presented to us from the pulpit of some televangelist or political hack, not the truth that has been skewed to suit the bias of a college professor-but the real, objective truth of the matter.
For instance the lie of race as a scientific fact has caused millions upon millions of people to live lives in misery, yet it was (and in many places still is) considered to be truth.
Other lies that guide our behavior because they are accepted as fact may be categorized and numerated such as:
"There is a real difference between Democrats and Republicans"
"America is a nation of God"
"9/11 was the act of Iraqi Terrorists"
or maybe (just maybe)
"There are no such things as UFO's (or ghosts or any other weird phenomenon)"
I would like to collect as many proven lies as I can and include them on this and other websites-so what lies have you discovered in your life to be truths, and what truths have you learned to be lies?
